Trail Type: There-and-back Congestion: Light Trail: Mostly maintained Parking: Sufficient Camping: Tent This is the iconic local climb of Juneau. A quick run through town leading into a warmup along Gold Creek, up the Perseverance Valley, and Gold Falls before turning up the mountain. Whacking your way through Salmon Berry bushes, into old spruce, before breaking out above the tree line. This trail is a wonderful taste of the mountains surrounding the town as well as a great gateway to longer trails. The trail is partly switch back with several creek crossings, partly mud slogging, partly rock hopping, and mostly awesome. A favorite among many downtown locals, and the most rewarding short run with a well maintained trail system all the way to the top. With a 3576 foot...

With connections to the Flume trail, Granite Creek, Silver Bow Ruins, Gold Falls, The Glory Hole, Red Mill, Mt. Juneau, and Mt. Roberts it is no wonder. From thick forest to raw high steep valley walls down to Gold Creek, Persy, as the locals say, is a highly stimulating trail just steps from the edge of town. Basin Creek road can be taken up to the main trail head, but is also an enjoyable start to the whole trail system. Persy was the first road in Alaska and was built following a Tlingit goat hunting path and used to reach the main mining basin. The old road has been made into a well maintained wide path for the first couple miles before turning into a single track along sections that run along the cliff next to the creek and opens...

It can be used to connect up to the ridge, or simply as a day trip to admire the granite walls and waterfalls. The Granite Creek Trail, starting 2 miles in on the Perseverance Trail, climbs 1,200 feet over 1 1/2 miles to an incredible alpine basin. After switchbacking quickly up and away from the Perseverance valley the trail follows Granite Creek from there up and over two water falls before leveling out in the basin. From the basin, there are two trails that are mildly worn by foot traffic and several less worn paths. The first of the two is seen on the east side of the basin right as you...

Roberts Trail Juneau’s Most Popular Summit Google Map Directions Most noted for ease of access due to the Mt. Roberts tramway run by the Goldbelt corporation during the summer tourism season, this mountain completes the Juneau Ridge Cirque. The trailhead is located just after the trestle bridge on Basin Creek Road. The initial ascent is much more friendly than its cousin across the valley, Mt. Juneau. About two miles up the trail, users will hit the Mountain House which, during the summer, is a nice bathroom stop and water fill up before continuing on. The Nature Center across the way has updated trail and weather information. From there, this trail is full of false summits. Mt. Roberts proper is about 3 miles of steady rocky incline ending at 3819 feet. The last half mile along Gold Ridge is covered in beautiful alpine grasses and lush low brush when the snow clears is a wonderful place to nap...

The road portion offers a smooth easy path for dog walkers a cyclists. It is a nice path for groups and conversations since it is wide enough for 3 or 4 people to walk side by side. Once the trail turns off the road on the left it becomes a single track often with a steep drop off. A mix of switchbacks on rough trail and well constructed stairs marks this path up to the reservoir. The mountains around the dam make for an impressive view to enjoy your accomplishment, and the view back over the valley is mystical on a cloudy day. Access is off Egan drive just across from the Juneau Empire. The parking area is small and...
